The mortarboard is a crucial tool in construction work, especially during bricklaying and plastering tasks. However, conventional mortarboards have a common drawback—users are often unaware when the mortar runs out, leading to wasted time and workflow disruptions. This issue particularly affects construction technology students during practical training, where maintaining a continuous workflow is essential for effective learning and skill development. Manual monitoring of mortar levels causes delays and inefficiencies on-site. The absence of a timely alert system results in unexpected mortar shortages, affecting both the quality and speed of construction work. To overcome this challenge, a Smart Mortarboard has been developed by integrating a load cell weight sensor and a buzzer system. This system provides an early warning when mortar levels drop below a preset threshold, ensuring timely replenishment. The Load Cell Sensor detects the real-time weight of mortar on the tray, while the Buzzer Alert System automatically sounds when the mortar weight falls below the minimum threshold and stops once mortar is refilled. The Smart Mortarboard Mobility Design is equipped with four 360° swivel wheels and a telescopic handle for easy movement around the construction site. The testing phase confirmed the system’s effectiveness in providing real-time alerts, allowing users to replenish mortar promptly without the need for manual checking. This significantly reduced work disruptions and improved task efficiency.
